Reflection from EDLD 5363 Conferences

The purpose of the conferences was to provide additional information and allow students to collaborate with each other as well as the professor about the happenings of the assigned weekly assignments. I think this method does help ensure the student success in the course and it's even more beneficial that the conferences are recorded so, that students can go and view them if he/she could not attend the live version. Each conference has a written transcripts of what the typed information was discussed which is also a great feature of the conferences.

Conference for 6/29/2013 :

The conference started off with cordial greetings and allowing everyone to log in and get settled in. There were several questions such as week 4 assignments due dates. The professor clarified that all assignments are due for week 5. She did mentioned that we were still to comment on others groups video links as they post. Discussion points are doubled and that it must be turned in for week 4 since week 5 doesn't have a placement for that assignment. She also made sure to explain that we are to document our reflections in our google sites/blogs. Week 5 assignments also need to be placed in Tk20 as well as discussion board. The group also talked about the ISTE conference and the wonderful workshops that were going on. She also talked about how the principal program is built into our degree program and that we can take the test after we have completed our internship program. She mentioned that we are to finish up on our hours before we take the test and that class would be 5398, where we would complete our final plan for research plan. Some professional groups she recommended to us was Texas Computer Education Association (tcea.org) and International Society for Technology on Education (ISTE.org). She also spoke about SIG which are specialized groups.

Conference for 6/28/2013:

The conference started off with Carla speaking about her experience at ISTE Conference in San Antonio. She participated in the Elliot Soloway session about BYOD with the purpose of learning how to implement the program properly. In doing so, she was able to meet with the presenter and was given a great deal in exchange for using his program she in turn can get 15 devices for her classroom. What a great opportunity! Carla shared Dr. Soloway  website: www.intergalacticmlc.org which is a free software and there is an app to download. The professor spoke about the importance of sharing and collaborating and how that is a 21st century skill.

Conference for 6/22/2013:

The conference was mainly about where to turn in the assignment and that we need to make sure that we are including the links into our google site or blog. Make sure all key assessments that are placed in TK20 are also placed in your google site and/or bog. She also mentioned to put in extra things in your site/blog to document your learning. Questions were also asked in regards to the video...she wants more video than still shots. Prefer it to be 90 seconds but, no longer than 2 minutes. Any issues with TK20 e-mail at tk20@lamar.edu.
